Over the past 10 years Stewart North & Northglen Gundogs have won over a hundred awards in working tests and field trials, and  produced several kennel club stud book entries and field trial winners. It all started in 1995......

1995 ~ Stewart bought his first gundog Keythorpe Blacknight (Casper) as a typical family pet, and subsequently became interested in gundog training only to acheive some basic obedience!

1997 ~ It wasn't too long before he found himself competing in working tests, winning both novice and open working tests throughout the UK. This success the led to an interest in field trials, and in 1997 Casper won his first field trial award.

1999 ~ Stewart's second gundog Farmclose Meg of Northglen (Susie) achieved even higher success and finished a career with 12 field trial awards.

2004-06 Stewart captained three winning gundog teams at the prestigious Chatsworth Country Fair, competing with the very best gundog handlers in the UK.

2008 ~ Stewart started training gundogs for clients, and within the first year was soon winning working test awards with his clients gundogs.

Stewart is now one of the Top 10 Gundog Club Trainers having achieved high marks with pass rates, distinctions rates, student number & student progress, he also approved as a Kennel Club Accredited Breeder and subscribes to the Kennel Club accreditation scheme, for Instructors in Dog Training and Canine Behaviour.

The Gundog Club has 80 trainers registered throughout the UK and administers an excellent training & attainment program for both beginners and experienced handlers, who can enjoy their dogs without the pressure and expense of competition.

Our training techniques are producing some excellent working gundogs across a variety of gundog breeds including HPRs Spaniels & Retrievers. A number of students have now started beating, picking up and shooting with their best friend and companion.

Christopher Young ~ Market Harborough

"We came to Stewart having strived for a couple of years to get Truffle (a Working Cocker) under control.  She is primarily a pet with a fantastic nose and a great desire to hunt and would take herself off for long periods to find feathered friends.  Not only has Truffle been trained by Stewart but so have we!  He has methodically, carefully and calmly shown all of us how to get the best out of each other.  Truffle is much improved, the levels of stress are much reduced for it and she and I have even had a couple of reasonably well behaved days of shooting together.  I would willingly (and have) recommended Stewart to others"

June Wicks ~ Great Glen, Leicestershire

"Having never owned a pet, not even a goldfish ! Within 1 year of training with Stewart I braved my first puppy test, which is of enormous credit to Stewart's perseverance, enthusiasm and encouragement. He has an intuitive understanding of dogs and has therefore had to work far harder training me to be a good handler than Ruari to be a gundog. He expects high standards from both the handler and dog but all the hard work is worth it all, and more. We now have both a fantastic family dog and one who is rapidly becoming a good gun dog. This is all thanks to Stewart who is now a really good friend of the family"

Penny McCormack~ London

"Stewart took my lab pup at 10 months and helped her become the excellent dog I knew she always was, but couldn't quite access myself.  He got her walking on a lead in a straight line, without pulling in no time, and taught me several ways of keeping her mind working to ensure she's a stimulated, happy, non-destructive dog.  I couldn't recommend him more highly".

Steve Hare ~ Fleckney, Leicestershire

"In just 6 short months of training we have changed from pet and pet owner to Working Dog and Handler, and this is thanks to the gundog courses and one to one sessions with Stewart.
Over the six months I would like to say that the tutor/student relationship is now one of friendship. Beyond the training, Stewart also introduced me to a friendly shoot, that I have been fortunate enough to work on throughout the season".

Rebbecca Lee ~ Northampton

"We have an Irish Water Spaniel called Marley and were at our wits end with his training until we came across Stewart at Northglen Gundogs. Stewart not only helped to train Marley but also educated us about gundog training and helped us become better owners. This year Marley has been beating with us flushing birds and has even retrieved some as well something we thought would be a long time away. Many thanks Stewart and look forward to some more training with you and our new addition Beano the Labrador".

Katie Evans ~ Althorp Estate, Northamptonshire

"As an estate manager living on a large sporting estate (with a 2000 bird rearing pen outside the garden gate) it is important that dogs are under control.  When I first took my 6 month old Springer to Stewart she was chasing birds, out of control and in serious trouble with the gamekeepers.  Now half way through grade 2, I am happy to say we have a dog that we can be proud of, she is on the whistle, under control and has been invited back to a shoot next season, and all this is down to Stewart.  I have learnt to understand my dog and more importantly we are now a team looking forward to passing grade 2 and the shooting season ahead".

"Just a quick note to say thankyou for todays Grade 1 training session today at Peterborough.

I thought it was excellent - every session I learn something, mostly what I'M doing wrong, not the dog!"

Jo Watts ~ Market Bosworth, Leicestershire

"Me and my family are absolutely flabbergasted by the improvement in Ozzy.  Walking him (for his 10 minute walks) is an absolute pleasure.  My husband took him the day after his lesson and he didn't try to pull once.  I've even managed to keep him from pulling with other dogs walking towards us on the lead - I cannot thank you enough!"

Amanda Lawman ~ Coalville, Leicestershire

"My Harley was a rescue dog who had been beaten and starved by his owners. Harley was frightened of everyone and everything and had no trust in humans, he lacked social skills and any form of training. As Harleys confidence grew so did his personality, he was disobedient and oblivious to commands, however he was always a very sweet natured dog. I attended obedience classes but he was never stimulated and was bored, I was advised to contact the Gundog Club to find someone with an alternative training program. I was introduced to Stewart, and have now been working with him for 3 months and there has been a great improvement in his behaviour. Harley is much calmer in the house and his behaviour outside on the lead is much improved. I am grateful for my trainers patience and help, my confidence has increased and continue to make progress"

Charlie Tyler ~ Kibworth, Leicestershire

"Before Tilly our Golden Retriever, I had never owned a dog before and had no idea of what I should be doing in terms of training. Stewart paid us a house visit in Tilly's first few months and it was invaluable and he pointed us in the right direction with what to expect from her and we made a start with some basic commands.  Stewart was great at giving us realistic expections and after a couple of house visits we took her over to Stewart for some basic training which went very well.  We don't want Tilly to be a field dog, just an obedient family pet and thanks to Stewart we are very much on the right track and know that it is down to us to keep up with her consistent training and I know, if I need to, I can contact Stewart for advice at any time".

Pam Linsdell ~ Hathern, Leicestershire

"Henry is a 2 year old English Springer Spaniel who likes to hunt. Unfortunately, as a puppy, I gave him too much freedom and he became over confident. By the time he was 15 months old his hunting desires became evident and I realised I needed help. I found it difficult to find appropriate help and resorted to sending him off to Wales on a residential course that covered basic obedience with some input tailored towards his needs as a working dog. The training he received was okay but I struggled when I brought him home.  My training had been minimal and it was evident all his problems had not been addressed. I was able to keep in contact by phone but I found this ineffective. I struggled with heelwork and I had no control in relation to his desire to hunt.

In desperation, I searched the internet and found The Gun Dog Club. They put me in contact with Stewart North and since April, everything has changed. We have been having 1-1 sessions and have enrolled on grade work. Stewart has patiently worked with us and has shown me what a good dog I have. Henry is achieving things of which I did not think he was capable. Following our first session heelwork greatly improved and the check chain, I came home from WaIes with has been replaced with a slip lead and never used again. With Stewart’s guidance, I am learning how to manage my hunting friend. I am gaining in confidence and the relationship between Henry and me has definitely improved. We got through grade one with distinction and are about to start grade two.

My experience of sending Henry away has taught me that training is not just for the dog but also for the handler. Furthermore, the quality of training in relation to the handler is important. The Wales experience although okay for Henry was not effective for me. The advantage of meeting Stewart is that he is not only an excellent dog trainer, but that he is also good at training the handler.

There is still a lot of work ahead and it is not always easy, but I have every confidence that Stewart will sort Henry and me out. The only regret I have is that we did not meet sooner".

Andy Johnson ~ South Witham, Lincolnshire

Poppy is a two year old Weimaraner who had started to behave quite badly, barking at everything and pulling. I got in touch with Stewart and explained the problem. I decided on 1:1 training as I thought this would be less disrupting than group training. After 6 weeks she was ready to take her Grade 1 HPR field test, which she passed with distinction. On the day of her test there were 17 dogs taking various tests and she behaved very well. We are looking forward to the challenge of grade 2
