Working Gundog Grade 3 Spaniel Course
Course Tasks ~ Off lead Heelwork, Steadiness, Sit, Stop Whistle, Recall, Memory Marks, Marks, Introduction to Shot, Introduction to Distractions, Introduction to Obstacles, Delivery.
This course teaches any breed of spaniel to complete three intermediate elements of spaniel gundog work namely obedience, retrieving and hunting. Your spaniel gundog does not require a pedigree or KC regisration, ideally your spaniel gundog should be capable of completing the tasks in Grade 2 before commencing this course.
We advise you to consider taking an training assessment before booking a course if you unsure of your gundogs ability.
Obedience
Your Spaniel is required to walk off lead at HEEL for 80m with DISTRACTIONS, the Spaniel is then required to SIT & STAY at a distance of 35m from the handler for a period of 2 minutes, after such duration the Spaniel is then recalled by the handler. The Spaniel is required to STOP on recall to the whistle from a distance of 15m from the handler, whilst a distraction is thrown and then recall to heel. The gundog shall remain under control at heel off lead at all times during the obedience section.
Retrieving
Your spaniel gundog is required to be steady to a fallen dummy at all times and will be required to demonstrate its memory and marking ability by completing 3 retrieves. The Spaniel will be required to jump a small fence or ditch, and will be introduced to medium cover. It will also be asked to retrieve using the out command after seeing a distraction. The retrieves will be performed in both medium and light cover. These retrieves can be completed with any suitable training aid or cold game.
Hunting
Your gundog is required to demonstrate it has the confidence and independance to hunt by learning a QUARTERING PATTERN although it is not essential to hold a tight pattern or turn immediately on the whistle. It must however STOP & RECALL on the whistle whilst hunting, and be STEADY to both a fallen dummy and shot. Each Retrieve is required to be delivered to hand.
The cost of the course is £160 and will have a maximum of 5 students over a 8 week duration, each training session will last approx 1 hour. In week 8 an assessment will be carried out by an independant assessor.
