Working Gundog Grade 2 Spaniel Course
This graded structured course teaches both gundog and handler off lead heelwork, steadiness, patience, directional work, basic handling skills, recall, hunting, mark retrieves, memory retrieves.
All our training is structured with levels of attainment over a series of grades and assessments.
Our training is highly disciplined for those who aspire to work a proper hunting dog, despite this we find their is high demand with owners who have submissive dogs who just require a general level of obedience and an increase in self confidence.
This course teaches any breed of spaniel to complete three basic elements of gundog work namely obedience, retrieving and hunting.
Your gundog does not require a pedigree or KC regisration, ideally your gundog should be capable of completing the tasks in Grade 1 before commencing this course.
We advise you to consider a training assessment before booking a course if you unsure of your gundogs ability.
Obedience
Your gundog is required to walk a short distance of 60m off lead without distractions, your gundog is then required to sit & stay at a distance of 30m from the handler for a period of 60 seconds, after such duration the gundog is then collected by the handler. Your gundog is required to stop on recall to the whistle at a distance of at least 15m from the handler. Your gundog is required to be under control at heel off lead at all times during the obedience section.
Retrieving
Your spaniel is required to be steady to a fallen dummy at all times and will be required to demonstrate its memory and marking ability by completing 4 retrieves.
Your spaniel will be introduced to the OUT command on memory marks and will learn to retrieve only on command by use of thier NAME.
Your Spaniel will learn to retrieve in light cover and follow directional hand signals These retrieves can be completed with any suitable training aid or cold game.
Hunting
Your gundog is required to demonstrate it has the confidence and independance to free hunt away from the handler, no formal pattern work is required. Your spaniel gundog will be required to demonstrate recall twice during the exercise.
Each course will have a maximum of 5 students over a 8 week duration, each training session will last approx 1 hour. In the 6th week a mock assessment is carried out and in the 8th week an end of course assessment will be carried out by an independant assessor.
